This benefit is available to eligible participants only. No retirees, dependents, or participants on continuation coverage are eligible.

Basic Benefit Description

Under the A07 benefit package, time loss benefits provide a benefit of 33% of journeyman pay for 40 hours as specified in the Area Master Agreement benefit for each week of non-occupational disability as defined by the plan. You receive a prorated benefit for partial weeks of disability.

Under the B07 benefit package, time loss benefits provide $100 per week.

Definition

"Disabled" means that, as a result of an injury or illness, you are absent from work, unable to work as a carpenter, and performing no other work of any kind for wage or profit.

Your attending physician must certify your disability. You are not covered if the disability began while you are on Self Contribution Coverage or COBRA.

Benefits Begin

Benefits begin with the first day of disability resulting from an injury or with the eighth day of disability resulting from an illness.

Benefits End

Benefits end after the maximum period of 26 weeks has been paid or as soon as the participant is no longer disabled.

Reinstatement of Benefits

A new (repeat) period of benefits can occur after the participant becomes disabled again but has been back to work.

  • After 30 calendar days back to work for a disability resulting from the same cause as the previous period.

  • After one day back to work for a disability resulting from a different cause.

Taxability of Benefits

This benefit is subject to both Social Security tax (FICA) and income tax.
