Plan to Join the Great American Smokeout
Can quitters be winners? For tobacco users, the answer is yes.
Have you tried to quit and later found yourself having another "first" cigarette? Don't let past experience prevent you from trying again. There's another opportunity to quit just around the corner.
Make a plan to participate in the Great American Smokeout on Nov. 21. If you are a tobacco user, try quitting for the day and give your body a tobacco-free holiday. Within 20 minutes of not smoking, your heart rate and blood pressure will decrease. Within 12 hours, the carbon monoxide level in the blood will drop to normal and your sense of taste will improve. (See more health benefits of quitting)
By the end of the day, you'll feel something else, too... satisfaction. A sense of achievement for doing something good for health, something you maybe thought was impossible. Remember, quitting for a day still counts as a quit.
The question is–what will you do on Nov. 22, the day after the Smokeout? Will you have another first cigarette? Or will you try for a second day of quitting?
If you're serious about beating tobacco once and for all, you'll have much better success working with a coach…a Quit Coach, that is.
An estimated 95% of quit attempts fail because people don't have the right support. That's why we encourage tobacco users to enroll in Quit For Life®. You'll work with a Quit Coach over the phone to come up with a game plan. You'll learn a playbook of strategies for coping with situations that make you want to smoke. The program is free for eligible carpenters and dependents, including the cost of nicotine patches, gum or medication.
By enrolling in Quit For Life now, you can be mentally and physically prepared to quit for good when the Great American Smokeout rolls around on Nov. 21. With the right support, it can be the official kickoff of your tobacco-free life.
