Mammograms Recommended for Women 35 & Older

By the end of this year, an estimated 40,000 women in the United States will die from breast cancer. As wives and partners, mothers and daughters, sisters, friends and neighbors, they will be missed by many. If there is any silver lining to this cloudy forecast, it's the fact that breast cancer survival rates are at an all-time high.

It's true: An estimated 97% of women diagnosed with breast cancer survive when the disease is detected early. This is why medical professionals recommend mammogram tests for women 35 and older.

Here's more good news: The Carpenters Health and Security Plan of Western Washington covers routine mammograms when included with an annual physical exam (subject to the Preventive Health Benefit Schedule).

Annual mammograms for women 40 or older on the Active plan are paid at 100%—no copay, no deductible, no coinsurance. Annual mammograms for women 40 and older on the Retiree plan are paid at 90% and subject to annual deductible.

Active and Retiree plans also pay for a baseline mammogram test once between the ages 35 and 40.

Contact your primary care doctor to schedule your annual physical exam. To locate preferred providers in your area, use the online provider directory or contact Carpenters Trusts and ask to speak with the Participant Advocate.
